Boca Firm recycles cell phones for profit

In Ed Kissel's world of cell phones, nothing goes to waste.
While new and improved products, along with tempting sales packages have made cell phones throwaway items, Kissel, his customers and even cell phone companies are finding value in the rubbish.
Mobilesource Corp., the Boca Raton company Kissel founded more than five years ago, operates out of two storage bays, supplying cell phones and accessories to individuals and businesses. The company rents phones, takes trades-ins and offers reconditioned replacement phones for less than a new phone costs, though Kissel wouldn't give specific prices.
Mobilesource also refurbishes used cell phones that have been cracked, crushed, and water damaged - replacing antennas, keypads, housing, batteries and the accessories that complete the package.
"We prefer to buy phones that work and resell them", said Kissel, who has corporate and individual customers in Florida, the Northeast and Europe. Exports to South America make up 50% of the revenue and have by far the biggest profit margin, he said.
